Projects from the Laboratory

LABAC

Laboratory of Energy Performance in Compressed Air System (CAS)

  1. Thesis
  2. Presentation of the projects carried out within Pavia Sviluppo (Monday 25 September 2012 at University of Pavia, Department of Electrical engineering): 8  trainees presented the projects deal with the optimization of a compressor room and development of a new Simulator for Compressed Air Systems. The works were developed in Antwerp at Atlas Copco Air Power.
  3. ModSCA project: ModSCA is a modular simulator for Compressed Air Systems. Its aim was to create a toolbox able to simulate the Compressed Air System placed in the Labac.
  4. Italian White Certificates and techno-economical assessment of the potential for steam expanders in the range of 150-250kW. The objective of this research is to model, in a simple manner, the basic system of a company that uses steam inside of its production cycle. Generally, inside the plants, using pressure reduction valves (PRV) to lower the level of pressure at the outlet of the boiler to a level useful for the customer. This is obviously a method dissipative. For this reason, the idea is to place in parallel to the RPV an expander of the steam, which lower the pressure, but at the same time producing electrical energy. It is therefore to change the system, making it a cogeneration plant. The model will be used to study the consequences that will have on the overall, due to the inclusion of the expander. In addition, we will evaluate the possibility of getting the white certificates for high efficiency cogeneration and we will study the sensitivity on the certificates, varying the parameters of the system.
